BET Boss Apologizes For Brown/Rihanna Mix-up
A TV boss has apologized for the Chris Brown and Rihanna mix-up at the BET Awards on Sunday which saw a trophy handed to the wrong star.
A fan who won a contest to give out a prize at the ceremony told the crowd Brown had landed the Coca-Cola Viewer’s Choice Award, before backtracking and revealing the singer’s ex-girlfriend Rihanna was the rightful winner.
Rapper Drake accepted the trophy on her behalf, but host Kevin Hart later cleared up the confusion by explaining it was Brown who had won the Viewer’s Choice Award after all.
Now BET President Stephen Hill has taken to Twitter.com to take full responsibility for the mishap.
He writes, “That BET Awards Viewer’s Choice mix-up was due to human error. And I was the human that made that error. I apologize to ALL affected.”
The incident was made especially awkward for the audience because Brown was convicted of assaulting Rihanna in 2009.
The Kiss Kiss hitmaker went on to win three other BET Awards, while Rihanna scooped best Female R&B artist at the Los Angeles event.
